I am blessed to have a wife that was an elementary school teacher for eight years in the Texas public school system. Today, my wife co-owns and co-directs a daycare located in the Benbrook area. Living with a teacher gives one a unique perspective in the challenges and rewards of being a teacher in the State of Texas. In addition, I have a child in first grade and a daughter that is two years old. To say I have a strong interest and understanding of many of the problems faced by our gracious and wonderful educators is an understatement. Texas educators are faced with many classroom responsibilities and are often underpaid for their efforts. In fact, our teachers are some the most underpaid in the nation. That is not only an insult, but an outrage. If I am elected, I will draft or assist in the drafting of the appropriate legislation to support our teachers and schools, and fight for the maximum salary increases that our teachers can receive. The bottom line is, teachers have given their very best, and we owe them ours.
