We seem to have avoided the illegal-immigration problem for as long as we could. Although it is their responsibility, we cannot leave this issue strictly in the hands of the U.S. Government. I strongly oppose using Texans' taxes on illegal immigrants, the overwhelming majority of which come across the Mexican border.
Although there is much debate on our side of the border concerning the issue of illegal immigration, the other side of the border has taken the opportunity to provide us with the solution. That solution in essence is: NO BORDER SECURITY.
Pres. Calderon apparently thinks we, as Texans and Americans, should do nothing except allow illegal immigrants to support the Mexican economy.
We must ensure that no state funded programs are accessible to illegal aliens. Texans have welcomed immigrants who seek opportunity, work hard, and play by the rules. But taxpayers should not pay for illegal immigrants who use hospitals, clinics, schools, roads, and social services.
As your Representative, I will seek legislation that will aggressively increase border security by increasing the deployment of the Texas National Guard to our border, as well as utilizing funding for all law enforcement personnel and technology at our disposal. In addition, I will support legislation that will decrease and/or eliminate the financial incentive for those illegal immigrants from crossing the Texas border.
Border Security:
We, as Texans, face an unprecedented influx of illegal immigration with no visible signs of significant decrease. In addition, the threat of terrorism is very real. If the Federal Government will not secure our border, we must, and we must be aggressive. I will support legislation that significantly increases the Texas National Guard in border operations as well as to further allow local law enforcement to enforce immigration. I will support legislation to provide technological advancement to border operations.
