Benbrook's proposed budget calls for employee pay raises, more police officers and a lower property tax rate.
The City Council has discussed the 2007-08 budget and tax rate during several work sessions and will adopt them Sept. 20.
Proposed 2007-08 budget: $14,072,565
Proposed 2007-08 tax rate: 0.6975 cents
2006-07 budget: $13,267,524
2006-07 tax rate: 0.7225 cents
What it means to you: The tax bill for an average home, valued at $150,000, will be $1,046 this year, down from $1,084 last year.
Budget changes include:
Adding four police officers, three for patrol and one for Western Hills High School.
A 2.5-cent reduction in the property tax rate, the lowest since 1991-92.
A new traffic signal for Winscott Road.
A compressed air foam system for firefighting.
A 3 percent pay increase for city employees.
An entrance monument for Benbrook Boulevard.
Budget calendar: Public hearings on the proposed budget and tax rate will be Sept. 20.
Sherri Newhouse, Benbrook's budget director said, "Benbrook's 2007-08 budget exemplifies our commitment to the community in that the budget provides high-quality services, enhances public safety, improves public facilities, rewards employees, addresses citizen concerns, yet lowers the property tax rate for the third consecutive year."
